Projects
The full plan, at a glance
The City of Mobridge passed a plan for the American Legion Complex in 2019 that addressed water drainage and accessibility issues on the east side of the block and outlined desired updates to the little league fields. Enhancements include a safer netting backstop system for the south field, replacing dugouts and concession stands, and providing shade covering for audience seating areas, and updating the volleyball area.
The City has already made significant investments in improvements for the space. They have purchased new playground equipment for the area just north of the tennis courts and converted two of the tennis courts to a set of four pickleball courts. We are partnering with the City to help raise the funds necessary to push the project forward.
Municipal ballfields improvement projects
In a partnership with the City of Mobridge, Mobridge Youth Organization has provided T-ball, coach pitch, and youth baseball and softball for Mobridge area youth ages 5-12 for the last 20 years. In 2022, we partnered with MYO to help with grant writing for their infield resurfacing project. With help from Royals Charities, the Midco Foundation, and the City of Mobridge, we’ve fully funded the $40,000 project, which will take place in Spring of 2023. We are continuing fundraising efforts for additional ballfield updates on the approved plan—backstop netting, dugouts, bleachers with shaded seating, concession stands, and picnic areas.
Improved pedestrian access to the the LFC
During talks with the city administration, we learned of several other parks and recreation projects that have not yet been started due to a lack of funds, including updates to the east municipal play park, west municipal play park, and Riverfront Walking Trail. A new goal has emerged to create a pedestrian-friendly path through town that connects our parks, public schools, library, senior center, hospital, Tiger Stadium, and commercial district.
Luckily, we don’t have to start from scratch. In 2016, a proposed Mobridge Walking Path was engineered after a Community Walking Audit was completed in 2015. The proposed water drainage and street resurfacing project from the above plan was part of the original proposed walking path. We are currently working to expand that project to include the south half of the City of Mobridge and new connections to the commercial district, east play park, Riverfront Walking Trail, and Revheim State Recreational Area. More information about that ongoing project is available here.
